Salvator Rosa, legend and magic - Exhibit in Naples
A painter whose acclaimed figurative art combined the love for music and the interest in poetry, Salvator Rosa is one of the seventeenth century Neapolitan greats, also well-loved in England in the eighteenth century when his evocative and mysterious painting inspired more than one Gothic author.
Designed to offer a monographic exhibit that delves into the versatility and particularity of an artist who achieved personal and original results in various fields, this exciting exhibit will be on display from April 18 to June 29, 2008 at the Capodimonte Museum with about 60 of the artist's works, united by their shared alchemy and magic themes, from Italian and international museums.
The exhibit will be accompanied by additional events to illustrate the artist's poetic and musical activities with readings of some of his works and the performance of the period music he often played to complete the picture of an artist who closely associated various artistic languages with his captivating paintings.
